The Military Marriage of Giulia and Valerio

Military wedding for Valerio, an officer of the Italian Army, has chosen to marry his sweet Giulia wearing the dress uniform.

The religious function took place in Formigine (MO) in the church of San Bartolomeo.

As required by military ceremonial, the honour picket was present, carried out by a group of armed friends who honored the bride and groom. In fact, upon leaving the church, the entire picket line up with sabers and as soon as the bride and groom reached the door, the commandant exclaimed the words: “Picket watch out! and “Honour to the spouses!”, then the sabers were raised to form the fateful bridge, under which the couple passed.
Tradition has it that, halfway across the bridge, two companions cross their sabers to block the bride and groom from kissing, after which one of the two soldiers drops the hat which is part of the groom’s uniform.
This gesture indicates that the two spouses have just gone through a transition phase that has brought them towards the security of married life.

The dinner was held outdoors, inside the courtyard Castello di Formigine where the saber then took center stage again when the cake was cut.
