When the Wedding Planner Barbara (Fatamadrina) contacted me to propose this marriage, I was honored not only for the engagement by Katalin and Russell, but also because they had chosen Modena, my small city, to celebrate their “escape of love”, yes because Elopement basically means this…
She of Hungarian origin and he Scottish had initially chosen Modena for a holiday to discover the places and those excellences that have made it famous all over the world. An intimate lunch in one of the most famous and award-winning restaurants on the planet, Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana, was the cornerstone and from this came the idea of organizing a truly intimate wedding, just for Kate and Russ. I met them directly at the Hotel Cervetta 5 in the city centre, without ever having a chat with them, but I immediately fell in love with their genuineness, their kind ways and the desire to discover every corner of my town and so I decided to photograph them strolling among the elderly at the Albinelli Market, curious to know whether or not Russell wore his underpants under his kilt, among the colorful views of the arcades and the crowded Piazza Grande, acting as their guide with my slightly rusty English.
Unfortunately I was not allowed to photograph the interior of the restaurant, but at the end of the lunch it was a pleasure to pick them up for another walk and an aperitif together.
